There are a sea of plugins out there to choose from, I have tried many and have worked with different combination of plugins. Finding the right ones to help with blog seo and making sure they work both together and with the current version of wordpress that you have installed. This has been a hassle since day one, finding what you need and not having compatibility issues with your wordpress install.

Having to many plugins that perform similar tasks nay cause conflicts, some conflicts may even stop your blog from working and you lose visitors. I have has a few issues with contextual related posts and have disabled it from my blogs. I see where there are a ton of seo plugins, you just have to know which will work together. I like All in One SEO Pack, it works great and has no problems with other plugins that I use.

For security use both Bad Behavior and Akismet. These will stop the idiots mostly.
For a sitemap I use Dagon Design Sitemap Generator, this plugin works well, but I had trouble with it on one blog that was very large and produced errors so I had to reduce the sitemap to pages only. This is the one you will use to produce a sitemap that is visible to the visitor.

Easy Privacy Policy works very well to build the Google required page with links for visitors to opt out of cookies.

Google XML Sitemaps works good along with the user based Dagon design sitemap plugin, one for the visitor and one for Google.

MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer “Saves your wordpress blog from getting tagged as ping spammer by installing this plugin.” This is one you will want to use when adding posts and pages, this way you don’t ping your own blog by accident until you are ready to post the finished product. This keeps you from pinging when you are only editing. A useful plugin to stop you from getting banned by the ping websites.

Nofollow Case by Case. I like this plugin for allowing a do-follow or no-follow according to what I want. You can use several settings to allow index or not too.

One Click Plugin Updater. This plugin is really handy for plugin nuts like me. I can click one button and all is done for me.

Robots Meta. Dis-allow certain pages and file types like your PHP. This way your competition with the spammy crawling bot will not grab your info.

SEO SearchTerms Tagging 2. This helps show what terms are used for search and help with traffic.

SexyBookmarks works well and adds a lot of user sharing format. This allows a user to easily share your post or page and bring more visitors.

WassUp allows you to see who has visited and at what time and what post or page they came to. It also reports what search term was used. A very handy plugin.

WP-Optimize keeps your blog tables optimized and gives one click function for removing spam.
